A sound legal argument

"Almighty God created the races white, black, yellow, malay and red, and he placed them on separate continents. And but for the interference with his arrangement there would be no cause for such marriages. The fact that he separated the races shows that he did not intend for the races to mix."

- "Honorable" Leon M. Bazile, Commonwealth of Virginia v. Loving, January 6, 1959

Commonwealth v. Loving was a 1959 prosecution of a white and black couple of marrying in violation of Virginia's anti-miscegenation statute. Somehow the trial judge's enlightened vision of racial harmony failed to convince the US Supreme Court, which overturned the conviction in the landmark case of Loving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1.

As a mongrel half-breed, I regret having contributed to the frustration of God's tidy geographical distribution, but I will try to live with the guilt as best as I can.

The really scary thing is that there are still people who think this way. Makes you proud to be an American. Or human, for that matter.
